This section takes you along the east side of Falls Brook and the gorge it has cut through solid rock. This gorge as seen from various heights and angles is one of the scenic highlights of the Trail in New Hampshire. Just south of the state line (in Massachusetts) there are two natural bridges across the gorge.

NOTE to Through Hikers: Starting in December 2019 through early spring 2020, the MM Trail in NH will be closed on the southern side of Gap Mt. due to logging.

Directions: The trail north from the state line goes up and down through open hemlock forest with stunning views of the Falls Brook gorge to the left. At .1 (.1) miles the trail bears to the right to detour around a seasonal backwater, returning shortly to once again parallel Falls Brook. At .2 (.2) miles enter a section where the trail slabs the hillside through areas thick with mountain laurel (blooming in late June) and with views of the brook to the left below. At .3 (.3) miles, descend to follow the brook turning shortly to the right away from the brook over a ledge and soon reaching a beaver pond. Follow the edge of the pond to reach Greenwoods Rd. at .6 (.6) miles.
